Even Together, Our Life is but a Vapor, was amongst fourteen pieces from a recent solo exhibition entitled Signs of Lift. The theme of the of the exhibition was presented through these works as sculptural meditations that consider our inhale and exhale of breath, the life found in that breath, and the generational path that breath cycles on.

An ice-like base of carved solid glass serves as the terrain for a grouping of igloos to congregate in a community. Even amongst the vastness above and around, people choose to live together in community and share in each other’s needs, sufferings, and joys.
Though separated in individual shelters, they still share space and time together within the same bubble of air even through layers of generations before them and those who will come after.

Inspired by the community that a colony of honey bees represent, I chose to make a blown glass honey bee skep-like form as the top of this sculptural bell jar. This bell jar contains communal air and reflects the shared responsibility of the community toward one another during the brief time each individual is gifted with the breath of life.

The constellations of dewdrops applied to the skep represent the moisture in our breath. As we now realize, even more so than ever, these droplets in every inhale and exhale contain elements of life and death. Each inhale contains much of what we need to live, and at the next moment, the exhale draws us nearer to the end of our time.

We all are points along this timeline of the community of breath, therefore we must all be stewards of the air we share.
